Atoms are funny and unbelievably small. One human hair is about 500,000 carbon atoms attached to each other. Look at your fist, it contains billions of atoms. If one atom was as big as a marble, how big would your fist be? About Earth's size. still hard to imagine?
Let's try something different. Look at your little finger. Think its tip is as big as the room you're currently living in. Now fill the room with grains of rice. One grain of rice represents one cell of your fingertip. Now let's bring it closer to the rice corn. And now, one cell is as big as the room you're in right now.
Let's fill it with rice again. This is about the size of the protein. Now, let's fill in all the blank spaces between the rice grains with fine grains of sand. This is about how small the atoms are.

In a neutron star, the atom cores are so compact that the mass of three Suns corresponds to an object a few miles wide. Well, what do atoms look like? Electrons resemble the activity of a wave and a particle at the same time. We can calculate where an electron can be at any point in time. The probable clouds in atoms, called orbitals, are where electrons can be located at a 95% confidence level. The probability of finding an electron is approaching 0, the more we are away from the atom core, but in fact, it is never zero, which means that, in a sense, the atom's electron may be on the opposite side of the universe. These strange elements make up everything in the universe. Of the many known things, you don't need a bunch of first-rates, just three. Take one proton and one electron, and you have hydrogen. Enter proton and neutron, you have helium. Put in a few more, you get carbon, a few more, fluorine, and even more, gold, and so forth. And every element of an element is the same. All hydrogen atoms in the universe, for example, are equal; the hydrogen in your body is exactly like the hydrogen in the Sun.
Feeling confused now? Yes, indeed! There is nothing at this stage of the universe that makes sense to anyone in our world, and we've even started talking about quantum mechanics or particle zoo, which we don't even know! Our model of atoms has changed several times since we first remembered it, and the present one will not be the last.
